Focused Energy is a German-American fusion energy company with operations in Darmstadt, Germany, and Austin, Texas, founded by leading laser physicists from TU Darmstadt and the University of Texas.
The company pursues laser-driven inertial fusion energy (IFE) based on the proton fast-ignition approach, building on the scientific breakthrough of laser fusion ignition demonstrated at the National Ignition Facility.
Our contribution to the fusion market lies in the development and industrialization of key enabling technologies — high-repetition-rate, high-energy laser systems, fusion target fabrication and mass production, and integrated plant engineering.
In parallel, Focused Energy delivers near-term commercial value from its laser and target capabilities, including applications in medical isotope production and advanced laser-based industrial and research services.
With a planned demonstration and power plant pathway in Germany — including the former nuclear site at Biblis — and a growing network of public and industrial partners, Focused Energy aims to supply reliable, baseload-capable, carbon-free fusion electricity.
